Math and Science Club

Math & Science Club is an after school program for youth ages 7-12. This program is designed to build and extend upon the participants’ foundation in the subjects of physics, chemistry and biology. Each session begins with a healthy snack and concludes with physical education. Math & Science Club is facilitated by student coordinators and volunteers from UBC. Join your peers from 3:30-5:30 pm at the Musqueam Community Centre! See below for examples of our work, and click here for more pictures!

Wind Turbine Project

Math & Science Club collaborated with UBC Physics Outreach to teach participants about the concept of energy conservation, and how this idea can create a source of renewable energy. We designed wind turbines to convert wind energy into electrical energy.

Healthy Heart Week

We learned that red blood cells carry oxygen, and that our heart pumps blood to the lungs so that red blood cells can get the oxygen that our muscles need. We used stethoscopes (borrowed from UBC Nursing) to measure changes in heart rate before and after exercise.
